Education through Outreach
Education through Outreach (EtO) is a program aimed to introduce high school students to the role of scientists and engineers in an product development by enlisting them to present projects to junior high students. The program aims to capture students at critical educational crossroads as they transition to high school or to college. this educational program will enhance student awareness of science and engineering in everyday products, spurring them on to STEM-based careers.
The Education through Outreach program will engage junior high students via high school student presentations on an engineer’s role in product development. Interactive product booths designed by area high school students will enhance exposure to STEM careers and virtual projects will facilitate internet dissemination of the program. The event will provide excitement, clarity, and direction as to the appropriate educational pathway through high school and beyond. Students taking the College Prep Engineering course at Lawrence High School will initiate the EtO program by preparing a project booth describing the role of an engineer in the development of a product. They will expose local junior high students to engineering careers and to the educational pathway to enter a science or engineering department in college.
